From Research Breakthrough To Real Cells
LionVolt was born from a decade of research into next-generation battery architectures at the Holst Centre in Eindhoven, one of Europe’s leading thin-film and semiconductor R&D institutes. The core insight: by rethinking the anode at a structural level, you can build a platform that works across battery chemistries and unlocks performance that conventional cells simply cannot reach.
In 2020, that research became a company. LionVolt. Incorporated with a clear mission: turn a laboratory breakthrough into manufactured cells that solve real problems for real customers.
From the start, we built around our proprietary 3D anode architecture and assembled a team with the experience to take it from prototype to production. What makes this architecture unique is its flexibility: it can be applied in next-generation lithium-ion, sodium-ion, and solid-state battery cells. We acquired a cell manufacturing facility in Thurso, Scotland, commissioned a pilot production line in Eindhoven, and began making cells.
Today, LionVolt manufactures lithium-metal cells that deliver over 50 to 100% more energy density than conventional lithium-ion, combined with strong power delivery and fast charge capability.

A More Sustainable Future
Better batteries are a prerequisite for a sustainable world. Every application that moves from fossil fuel to electric power depends on cells that are safer, longer-lasting, and built with fewer critical raw materials. LionVolt’s technology reduces dependence on graphite, extends cell life, and is designed for manufacturability at scale.

A Step-Change In Battery Performance
Conventional lithium-ion has served the world well, but it has reached its ceiling. The next generation of drones, electric aircraft, and mobility platforms need cells that deliver more energy, more power, and faster charging. LionVolt’s 3D anode architecture breaks through that ceiling today with lithium-metal cells, and is designed to do the same for sodium-ion and solid-state chemistries as those markets mature.

European Supply Chain Independence
China controls over 95% of the world’s graphite supply, the material at the heart of every conventional lithium-ion anode. For industries where supply security is not optional that dependency is a strategic vulnerability. LionVolt’s cells are designed and developed in Europe, manufactured outside China, with IP and quality control retained by LionVolt.

LionVolt is incorporated as an independent company, with a mission to commercialise next-generation battery technology developed in the heart of Europe’s high-tech ecosystem.
2021
Seed Funding Round Closed
LionVolt closes a seed funding round led by Innovation Industries, attracting investors who share the conviction that Europe needs sovereign battery capability.

LionVolt secures non-dilutive financing for setting up its pilot production line.
