LionVolt is a deep-tech startup working on a revolutionary battery using a 3D anode architecture that will boost battery performance and bring an important contribution to achieving global net-zero goals. A step change in battery performance is in high demand from our application markets, and our architecture boosts energy density and charging rates without compromising safety and duration/life.
Our multinational and highly diverse team consists of 50 people across multiple locations. Our innovation centre is based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, a leading European innovation hub, and we have a cell manufacturing facility in Scotland. In addition, we are expanding our manufacturing capacity with a new production line at the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, giving us everything we need to realise our innovation.
This is how you can contribute
We are looking for an enthusiastic Electrochemist/Battery Scientist who will be work in the cell and product development team in LionVolt Ltd’s Scottish Production Environment. The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary and dynamic team, developing and scaling up technologies and designs, and supporting materials and process development.
The responsibilities:
- Act as an interface between Cell Development and Production/Prototyping and materials development
- Support procurement by specifying equipment and materials for research and prototyping in the Scottish Production Environment and other locations
- Inform the cell development team of developments within production/prototyping
- Develop, carry out and advise on QA / QC for cell production process steps
- Lead and support process QA and QC for materials, electrodes and cells as required.
- Support the Cell Development team in all locations as required.
- Lead small – scale cell characterisation as required (Swagelok and PAT-cell testing)
- Supervise existing mix and electrode formulations and develop new ones
- Develop and carry out in-house electrochemical characterisation and analysis
- Develop cell and experiment designs for characterising cells and components.
- Carry out and support internal and external cell development and characterisation activities.
- Model cell designs and performance for new and existing components
- Lead relevant work tasks within internal and customer-funded projects.
- Carry out and support the formulation of Risk and COSSH Assessments for all relevant areas.
- Lead and support the creation of work/process instructions for mixing and electrical characterisation/cell testing.
- Support and lead production processes with targets, documentation, and work orders.
- Provide project and product managers with updates on development work.
- Perform post-mortem analysis on cells.
- Carry out data analysis for cell characterisation and for statistical process control
We are looking for
- A team player who never gives up and wants to be part of an exciting startup
- A PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or a closely related discipline with Knowledge of Sodium or Lithium ion or metal batteries or equivalent research, industrial, or commercial experience.
- Several years of experience with battery prototyping and electrochemical characterisation
- A knowledge of working in an industry or research environment, and experience in good practice in industry or research.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
