About LionVolt:
LionVolt is a deep-tech startup working on a revolutionary battery using a 3D anode architecture that will boost battery performance, and by doing so bring an important contribution to achieving global net zero goals. Our Mission is to develop and scale 3D batteries to deliver the highest performance, fastest charging, safest, and most sustainable battery solutions. This is enabled by the combination of our novel 3D battery architecture, with unique coating processes for the various materials in the battery stack. Our dream is to start work on a Giga factory within five years, targeting the fast-growing battery industry.
Our multinational and highly diverse team consists of 40 people across multiple locations. Our innovation centre is based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, a leading European innovation hub, and we have our cell manufacturing facility in Scotland. In addition, we are expanding our manufacturing capacity with a new production line at the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, giving us everything we need to realise our innovation. To support this exciting next step, we are looking for a Junior electrochemist to join our team and help advance our technology.
This is How you can contribute:
We are looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Cell Electrochemist/Battery Scientist to help support and accelerate LionVolts cell innovation and development activities. The role operates within the Cell Development Team at LionVolt Ltd’s Scottish Production Environment. The role involves working as part of a multidisciplinary and dynamic team working towards commercialising the next generation of batteries.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work with other teams across the company to ensure accurately and timely flow of information and results
- Inform the cell development team of developments within other teams
- Support logistics and procurement in the ordering and handling of chemicals and components
- Support cell prototyping/production activities (slurry mixing, electrode coating and calendaring) as required
- Carry out and advise on QA / QC for cell production process steps
- Support the Electrochemistry and Cell Development teams as required.
- Carry out small – scale cell characterisation as required (Swagelok and PAT-cell testing)
- Assist in formulation and mixing of electrode slurries
- Support in-house electrochemical characterisation and analysis
- Support internal and external cell development and characterisation activities.
- Support relevant work tasks within internal and customer funded projects.
- Support the formulation of Risk and COSSH Assessments for all relevant areas.
- Support the creation of work / process instructions
- Support or lead process QA and QC for materials, electrodes and cells as required.
- Support production processes with targets, documentation and work orders.
- Provide project and product managers with updates on development work.
- Perform post mortem analysis on cells.

- You have a degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research, industrial or commercial experience.
- Experience working in a research or industrial environment
- Experience with test vehicles for electrochemical characterisation and prototyping equipment
- Experience and familiarisation with processes for electrochemical characterisation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
