LionVolt is a deep-tech startup working on a revolutionary battery using a 3D anode architecture that will boost battery performance, and by doing so bring an important contribution to achieving global net zero goals. A step change in battery performance is in high demand from our application markets, and our architecture boosts energy density and charging rates without compromising safety and duration/life.

Our multinational and highly diverse team consists of 40 people across multiple locations. Our innovation center is based at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven, a leading European innovation hub, and we have a cell manufacturing facility in Scotland.  In addition, we are expanding our manufacturing capacity with a new production line at the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, giving us everything we need to realize our innovation. To support this exciting next step, we are looking for a production lead to take charge of our brand-new production location.

 Role overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated senior electrolyte team lead for our 3D batteries at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven. The senior electrolyte team lead will spearhead the development and optimization of liquid/hybrid electrolytes for Li metal batteries, leveraging his/her extensive industry experience to drive innovation and guide the internal research team. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of electrolyte chemistry, strong problem-solving skills, and a proven track record in managing R&D projects and teams. Additionally, they will bring a well-established network within the Li metal start-up community, facilitating collaborations and staying ahead of emerging industry trends. Their leadership will be key in aligning the company’s research direction with its long-term product and market goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrolyte Development: Lead the formulation, testing, and optimization of liquid/hybrid electrolytes for Li metal batteries, ensuring performance, safety, and scalability.
  • Team Leadership and Team Guidance: Guide and mentor the internal electrolyte research team, setting priorities, providing technical direction, and fostering innovation.
  • Technical Project Management: Oversee R&D projects technically, from conception to commercialization, ensuring timely and successful execution while adhering to project goals and deadlines.
  • Collaboration & Networking: Build and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders, leveraging a strong network within the Li metal battery ecosystem.
  • Administrative Duties: Manage the resource allocation, and reporting of research projects to ensure alignment with the company’s overall objectives.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Work: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including materials scientists and cell engineers, to integrate electrolyte solutions into final battery products.
  • Industry Trends & Strategy: Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the Li metal battery sector to ensure the company remains competitive.

 

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD. in chemistry, materials science, or a related field focusing on battery technology or liquid electrolyte chemistry.
  • At least 4-6 years of experience working in the Li-ion and Li metal battery field with proven expertise in the design, formulation, and characterization of electrolytes (liquid or hybrid). Proven ability with DoE for electrolyte formulation optimization is a plus.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor R&D teams, providing strategic direction and technical guidance.
  • Strong connections and networking ability within the Li metal battery community to foster collaboration and stay ahead of industry advancements.
  • Experienced in technically managing complex R&D projects.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical challenges related to electrolyte development, including issues of stability, compatibility, and scalability in Li metal battery applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present information clearly to stakeholders. Works with company values focused on generating a safe and fun employee culture
